Team members do not participate in the conversation?

The Gefühlsmonster cards introduce a humourous atmosphere to groups and make it easier to talk.

Teams can have very different feelings about the same task. The Gefühlsmonster cards can help you visualise this quickly and in a light-hearted way and can thus contribute to a better mutual understanding within the group. They support a feedback culture in which both difficult and pleasant things have room at the same time. Whether it’s clarifying feelings in the beginning of a group session, evaluating a team day or seminar: With the Gefühlsmonsters, as a trainer, you have an effective and easy-to-carry instrument in your pocket for energizer exercises, input on communication, or for an effective and lasting clarification of feelings in particular situations.

Carla van Kaldenkerken, supervisor and trainer for mediation – www.stepberlin.de – has kindly written down the following tips and advice for us:

“Here is a brief sketch of how to use the cards. Because the cards are cellophane wrapped, they are easy to lay on the ground and the clients do not have to be afraid to step on the cards.

I usually use them like this:

1. initial situations
The cards are scattered on the floor. With the small format the cards are in the middle of the circle of chairs, with the large format the cards are scattered around the room and the customers walk around  and choose cards by standing on or next to the cards.
In the initial situation, it’s always about making a difference to the context from which the customers are coming.

So usually the 3 guiding questions are relevant:

    How am I currently doing?

    What else is occupying me in the context from which I just came?

    What do I want to discuss here today?

The Gefühlsmonster Cards are a possibility to make statements about my current state of mind by placing myself on the card and briefly describing the occasion or current situation.

2. flash in the group
When changing the programme to self-topic in the group or to get a short mood picture in the group on other occasions, the cards lie on the floor and the participants stand up to the card that currently expresses their state of mind most strongly.

3. single cards can be used for sociometry. For scales I put “emotional polarities” on the ground and the participants stand on the scale.

4. when working with the timeline for professional biography, the cards are also used by clients to mark certain phases and events in their lives with emotional qualities”.
